Iraqi soldiers carry their weapons during a mission against Islamic State in Iraq Nineveh (Iraqinews.com) – Six Islamic State militants were killed in an airstrike by the U.S-led inteational coalition warplanes on Mosul city, a security source was quote as saying Sunday. Speaking to Baghdad Today news website, the source said, “The U.S.-led inteational coalition carried out an airstrike in coordination with the Nineveh Operations Command, targeting Islamic State remnants in Badush village in northweste Mosul.” “The air raid left six Islamic State militants dead and one of their tunnels completely destroyed,” the source pointed out. On July 10, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced liberation of the second largest Iraqi city of Mosul from IS militants, who had captured it in 2014. More than 25,000 militants were killed throughout the campaign, which started in October 2016. Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) currency auction on February 11 registered $194,322,309 in sales, a -2.87% volume decline from the US $200,067,351 sold by Iraqi Dinar, credit and transfer at the previous auction held on February 8. The latest auction was attended by 45 banks and 9 remittance companies. The same institutions attended the auction held on February 11 compared to the previous auction. Data for the February 11 auction was made public by CBI Announcement Number 3632. Dollar sales in the in the period January 1, 2018 to February 11, 2018 saw an increase of -1% compared to the sales of US $4.35 billion in the same period in 2017. The total amount of US currency sold by CBI in the calendar year 2017 was US $15.7 billion. An analysis of the monthly dollar sales by CBI since January 2016 reveals highly fluctuating volumes. During the period from January 2016 to February 2018, sales of US dollars averaged US $1.79 billion per month. Peak volumes were reached in May this year when sales touched US $2.3 billion. In a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Alghad Press on Sunday, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) echoed a call by the UNICEF and UN-Habitat for urgent investment to restore basic infrastructure and services for children and families in Iraq. “Violence may have subsided in Iraq, but it has upended the lives of millions across the country, leaving one in four children in poverty and pushing families to extreme measures to survive,” the statement read. According to a UNICEF and UN-Habitat assessment, promoting investment in Iraq is necessary to restore basic infrastructure and services for children; otherwise the hard-won gains to end conflict in Iraq are in jeopardy. Unidentified gunmen attack a checkpoint of Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Three paramilitary personnel were killed as a suicide attacker blew up himself in west of Mosul, a police source said on Saturday. “A suicide bomber, wearing a suicide belt, blew up himself near a checkpoint of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) in Baaj,” Lt. Gen. Esman al-Mallah told BasNews. “The bodies were taken to forensic medicine department, while troops launched a campaign there in the region that ended up arresting ten suspects,” Mallah added. Iraqi security forces arrest a suspected fighter with the Islamic State group during a military operation. Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) The military intelligence department has announced arresting two members of Islamic State’s so-called Kirkuk State. In a statement on Thursday, the department said “depending on accurate intelligence information, an operation was carried out by the department. Troops managed to arrest two members of Islamic State’s so-called Kirkuk State.” According to the statement, the two suspects are wanted as arrest warrants were issued against them by court.
