Islamic State execute 4 members on charges of cowardice west of Mosul

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has carried out the fourth mass execution of its militants this year, east of Salahuddin.

AlSumaria News quoted a source as saying that “IS shot dead five members on Monday at the outskirts of Mutaibija, north of Salahuddin, over reluctance in fulfilling duties instructed by the group.”

Most of the executed members, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, were from Diyala province. “It’s the fourth execution that occurred this year in Mutaibija, an important IS stronghold, from which the militants launch its armed attacks against liberated regions either in Salahuddin or Diyala,” the source added.

On Friday, news reports said the group but the ninth emir of Diyala province in Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk over reluctance in fulfilling duties and failing to achieve victories over the past few months.

IS still holds a few areas in each of Anbar, Salahuddin, Diyala and Kirkuk.

Occasional attacks have been witnessed in Mutaibija by Islamic State against govement and paramilitary troops deployments since Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and PMUs, launched a major offensive to retake areas occupied by IS since 2014, most notably the city of Mosul.
